New Moon & Shadow Work

The New Moon happens when the sun and moon align - these two being in alignment blocks our view of the moon and the moon appears to disappear for a few nights. We cycle into this phase of the moon every 28 or so days. The gravitational pull on the moon impacts so much of our everyday lives that it’s easy to forget its power.

Think about it, the ocean responds to the moon twice a day. As the moon gets fuller, the tides and waves often get stronger. The moon’s gravitational pull also has a direct effect on humans because we are made up of mostly water - makes sense, right! This is especially true for women, who operate naturally with the cyclic nature of the moon. Tapping into and harnessing the power of the moon is a powerful way to remain in flow with mother nature and co-create with her.

It’s encouraged that we use the New Moon phase as a time where self-reflection encourages us to go within to reveal past traumas, so we can acknowledge them and work to heal them.

Did you know the New Moon is a time where self-reflection is encouraged, and new goals are initiated. When we are able to go within and become aware of “the shadow” hidden within and work to address the ego that follows, we begin to start down a path of enlightenment. Follow these shadow work meditation prompts during the powerful energy of the New Moon, to help reveal the inner secrets that have been taking up space for too long, and release what no longer serves you.

  1. Quiet Meditation - find a quiet space and ask yourself about a past situation and how it made you feel. Sit in stillness with yourself and listen to what is revealed. Use those feelings and connect with the emotions they surface and then release it to the past.

  2. Chakra Meditation - Imagine the colors of the rainbow washing over you like waves starting from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Every time you take a breath imagine a new color of the rainbow washing over you - each color representing a color of your chakras - and cleansing each one. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Purple.

  3. Journaling Meditation - journaling is a powerful way to express thoughts (conscience and un-conscience), feelings and emotions in a safe and non-threatening space. Grab your phone, laptop or favorite pen and write whatever it is you’ve been needing to let go.

With consistent effort and courage to face things we would rather keep buried, meditation and shadow work allows us to love ourselves more so we’re able to work through issues and gain a better understanding of that loving person you were meant to be. Through this work it’s important to allow yourself to let it hurt, let it heal and to let it go!
